This course builds on the basic precepts of the EMDR model. Enhance your ability to apply EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy approach. You will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in EMDR; case conceptualization, cognitive interweave strategies, advanced applications of the three-pronged approach, and resourcing strategies that can be used throughout the course of treatment. Deany Laliotis will also address how some of the unique demands of EMDR therapy can present challenging clinical situations for both the therapist and the client. Videotape of actual clinical cases will be presented. You will be encouraged to explore how to apply these procedures and processes with your own clients and you will leave the workshop with new strategies you can use in your practice right away.

- Gain a thorough working understanding of the EMDR treatment protocol.
- Conceptualize a case over time as the processing evolves and issues shift from foreground to background.
- Identify where clients are stuck along the three informational plateau(s) of responsibility, safety and choices.
- Apply cognitive interweave strategies to address developmental deficits as well as facilitate the client's processing.
- Describe and apply at least three advanced applications of the three-pronged approach.
- Become familiar with at least three specific strategies to close down incomplete sessions.
- Apply at least three resourcing strategies to solidify therapeutic gains as well as prepare the client for memory processing.
- Appreciate the unique clinical demands of EMDR without compromising the integrity of the model or the therapeutic relationship.
This course is designed for clinicians who are seeking to deepen their understanding of EMDR principles, protocols and procedures and successfully integrate EMDR into their clinical practice. Building on the basic precepts of the model, participants will be able to enhance their ability to apply EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy approach. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in EMDR; case conceptualization with more complex cases, levels of cognitive interweave strategies, advanced applications of the three-pronged approach, and resourcing strategies that can be used throughout the course of treatment.
The instructor will also address how some of the unique demands of EMDR therapy can present some challenging clinical situations for both the therapist and the client. There will be a live demonstration during the workshop. Videotape of clinical cases will also be presented. Participants will be encouraged to explore how to apply these processes with their own clients.

Attendees must have completed an EMDRIA approved (50 hour) Basic EMDR Training. Familiarity with Francine Shapiro's text, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures is required.
Proof of completion of EMDR Basic Training Parts 1 & 2 must be provided along with your professional license number when attending the workshop.
Attendance at entire workshop is required to receive credit.
about the presenter
Deany Laliotis, LICSW is a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in treatment of traumatic stress disorders and attachment issues. She is a Senior Trainer for EMDR Institute, Inc., where she has been of the faculty since 1993. As an EMDRIA-approved trainer and consultant, she presents world-wide on advanced clinical applications of EMDR. She is the co-director of EMDR of Greater Washington and maintains a private practice in Washington, DC.
Deany has contributed a chapter titled, "Healing the Wounds of Attachment: An EMDR Relational Approach," in, Psychotherapist Revealed: Therapists Speak about Self-Disclosure where she writes about the relational component of EMDR psychotherapy. She has also recently co-authored an article with Francine Shapiro on, "EMDR and the Adaptive Information Processing Model: Integrative Treatment and Case Conceptualization," which is published in a special edition of the Journal of Clinical Social Work on Integrative Psychotherapy, October 12, 2010.
